Puri, 14/08: Protests have intensified in various parts of Puri district after the government allocated new liquor shops. Local residents and villagers have expressed their objections to the opening of new liquor shops.

In protest, the villagers of Gopinathpur Patna village blocked the road on Charinala Chingudi Factory Road today. Following the complaints of the villagers, they have opposed the opening of a foreign-made liquor shop on the Patna village road. The villagers have joined the protest, fearing that the opening of the shop will affect the social environment and security of the area.

The road blockade caused traffic to be disrupted for about 4 hours. While ambulances and school buses were allowed to ply, other vehicles and pedestrians faced difficulties.

On receiving the information, Additional Superintendent of Police Sushil kumar Mishra, Tehsildar Abhishek Das, Kumbarpada Police Station Incharge Vijay Ketan Behera and Sadar Police Station Incharge Kabita Sahu were present at the spot. After discussing and negotiating with the protesters, they were removed from the road after about 4 hours. However, the villagers continue to object to the opening of new liquor shops.
